The Watchers On The Couch Official Rewatch:Season 3, Part 2

Using The Characters of Season 3 as Motivation and Seeing If We Get Out of Bed

Episode Notes

SPOILERS!!! FOR ALL PUBLISHED BOOKS IN #GRRM'S A Song of Ice and Fire AS WELL AS ALL TELEVISED EPISODES OF HBO'S Game of Thrones...

Born amidst salt and smoke... Just off the Long Island Expressway... And beneath a bleeding star...

This week, #TPTWP, wearing their Watchers On The Couch cloaks and tunics (for a 6th straight week), chop up the characters and characterizations for Game of Thrones, the 3rd Season. They toss the meat onto the Royal Grill to see what sort of meal it makes.

The same formula is applied to Season 3 as was applied to Seasons 1 and 2: One or more characters that represent The Status Quo of Westeros; one character that represents The Protagonist and fights to maintain the Status Quo of Westeros; one character that represents The Antagonist and attempts to disrupt or change the Status Quo of Westeros; one character, out of reach and on their own, that is Chaotic Good by unknowingly strengthening the Status Quo as a result of their actions; one character, also out of reach or untouchable, that is Chaotic Evil through their actions, which harm the Status Quo as collateral damage; one or more characters that function(s) as a Threat On the Horizon and will attempt to come into open conflict with the Status Quo in the near future; and finally, one or more characters that function(s) as an Existential Threat to the Status Quo, as neither this (these) character(s) nor the Status Quo yet realize the threat posed.

Confused? Best to just listen. This is an interesting formula that can be applied to each Season of Game of Thrones with different results. Theoretically, this can also be applied to any Prestige Television Drama. So whip out your old LOST DVD's and play along with your friends!

Also in this episode: The Princes That Were Promised have a fit of laughter while SeannieWan introduces John to quite likely the best subreddit there is- r/PrequelMemes. It may be a good idea to explore the subreddit along with your Crown Princes.

If you aren't much of an explorer, there's this.

Or this...

... and also this.

The Princes That Were Promised are John and SeannieWan. Every week they tear apart Westeros and sift through the pieces to bring their Leal and Loyal Subjects the history of the Realm and The Known World from both George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire and HBO's adaptation, Game of Thrones.
